MORE ACt passes house JUDICIARY COMMITTEE

Washington, D.C.

The MORE Act, federal legislation that would decriminalize marijuana at the federal level, passed the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee today. The vote was 24-10.

Importantly, this bill would also eliminate past, current and future immigration penalties related to marijuana.

Currently, possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana for personal use violates immigration law, specifically, INA 212(a)(2).

Is this thing on?

Welcome to my first blog post of what I’m sure will be tens of future blog posts. No, just a little humor to get me started. My name is Andy Downey and I’m a Spanish and English speaking attorney in Louisville KY focusing on immigration, family and criminal cases.

I was born and raised in Kentucky and have a special place in my heart for helping people. I went to Bowling Green High School in Bowling Green, Kentucky and then went to college at the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY. After that, I went to law school at the U of L (Go Cards!) and have been practicing ever since.

That’s all for now. Check back soon.
